Patience
investmenttool.com Opinion
The hunt for the top two terrorist dogs in the world, Mullah Omar and Ossama Bin Laden got very cold last week. The interesting thing I noted however was the absolute patience of all involved. The U.S. military, government and people have a clearer idea of this war than I thought possible. The most important ingredient that is needed to win this war is patience.
With porous borders and uncertain law and order, the new Afghan regime is not going to be able to keep these two murders inside its borders. Heavily armed men as witnessed by the U.S. suffering its first combat casualties late last week surround them both.
The key to long-term success is patience. We need to get people on the ground compromised and feeding our forces intelligence. Eventually, we'll get a report at a place and time in which it can be acted on.
Having these men outside of Afghanistan might actually be a good thing. There are few places on the planet that offer more places to hide than that nation. The problem with leaving Afghanistan is the protection offered by thousands of Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters will be gone.
Al Qaeda certainly has resources and safe houses in many countries. The number of countries where they can actually hide and defy governmental authority is very few. Certain parts of Somalia and Pakistan offer some protection. No large private armies can be commanded there.
It would seem that if the best survival strategy for the twin killers is to surround themselves with as many armed men as possible, they might just stay put. Either way, technology has made the world a smaller place. These two men are going to die.
The American people have locked on to an understanding that the war on terror is complex and will take time. There are more casualties in the future and more nations involved.
It is commendable that four months into the war, which has now lasted twice as long as the Gulf War, America is focused. This society, so infatuated with instant gratification and immediate results is sitting back and patiently working toward a common goal.
