Our Sword and Sheild
investmenttool.com Opinion
No, I have not abandoned the Democratic party over Tom Daschle's skillful slaying of the stimulus bill that nobody really needed. I'll decide on the Bush issue when I see where the country is and how its doing some time late in 2004. Bush's war leadership deserves high marks and if he keeps it up re-election will not be a problem. That didn't stop him from kicking off his re-election campaign this fall. The best part is he didn't have to raise any money and it didn't cost republican donors a cent.
It started out as a patriotic ad from the travel industry urging Americans to travel again. It is a wonderful ad that I admit makes me feel better about America after September 11. It takes footage and voice from President Bush's dramatic post attack speeches and strings it together with images of planes flying and people traveling and having fun.
The spot has gone a long way toward making nervous Americans more willing to consider travel, especially by air. Frankly, running thousands of time in prime time, I think it did something for the national psychology as well.
It is also a highly unusual move. A former Federal Election Committee official a democrat was quoted in the Wall Street Journal that it was highly unusual for a President to let his image be used this way. Especially by an industry that contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the federal election process. Bush figures smile and note the extraordinary circumstances in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.
The spot looks a lot like how I'd design a Bush re-election ad. It takes some of the most powerful presidential oratory since the Kennedy era and uses it very well. The Travel Industry Association, which dreamed up the spot declared the campaign successful and announced they were extending it through the winter last week.
That's fine with the Bush 2004 people. Millions of dollars is buying prime television time, showing President Bush in the best possible way. The announcement leaves open the possibility of running the spot during the super bowel. Hmmm. Lots of television exposure. Costs republican donors nothing. Keeps those poll ratings up. Maybe even makes republican congressional candidates look better. Can't spot any problems there.
What the Bush White House should remember is that there is some pretty good footage of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle lying around. It's not the same caliber of the FDR like Bush speeches but just a nice shot of the Senator getting his anthrax vaccine with some postal workers would really look great. There is probably a lot of labor union dues money that can be put to work with image ads as well.
Looks like we accidentally found a way to have non-stop presidential campaigns, seven days a week, 24 hours a day..
